ISLAMABAD: In a move to boost exports and support the trade sector, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs has slashed port charges for export and transshipment containers at Port Qasim Authority (PQA) by 50%, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

As per the official notification, the revised rates will take effect from July 1, 2025, and will remain applicable for one year. The ministry stated that the step is intended to provide relief to exporters and promote overall economic activity.

The reduction in charges applies to export cargo at key terminals including Marginal Wharf, FOTCO, and PIBT, effectively halving wharfage charges for both export and transshipment containers.

Further relief has been extended to containerized cargo at DP World, offering significant cost savings for traders. However, the notification clarifies that empty containers will not qualify for any concessions.

Officials expressed confidence that the initiative will lower logistical costs and enhance Pakistan’s export competitiveness in the global market.
