KARACHI, June 6, 2026: Quantum Global Data Centre (QGDC), a venture of the Gul Ahmed Energy Group, has announced plans to develop Pakistan’s largest Tier III data centre with an initial investment of $230 million. The facility is expected to become operational in 2027 and could attract total investments of up to $600 million over the next three to four years.

The announcement was made during the Q Summit in Karachi, where QGDC signed a strategic partnership agreement with Huawei Pakistan to jointly develop a data centre and a science and technology park to support Pakistan’s digital transformation.

Speaking at the event, QGDC Chairman Danish Iqbal said Pakistan’s demand for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and high-performance digital services is growing rapidly. He noted that the country currently spends hundreds of millions of dollars annually on overseas computing resources and emphasized the need for local infrastructure to support future technological growth.

The project is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, improve data sovereignty, and create opportunities for technology companies, financial institutions, and government agencies seeking secure local hosting solutions. The facility will also support AI workloads, cloud services, and enterprise data operations.

Industry experts view the investment as a significant step toward positioning Pakistan as a regional technology hub and reducing dependence on foreign data centres.
