The death toll from the fire that broke out late Saturday night at the Gul Plaza shopping mall on MA Jinnah Road has risen to 27, after 40 percent of the building collapsed. Several victims died from suffocation and burn injuries. Rescue teams are continuing debris removal and body recovery operations, while the number of missing persons has reached 83.
According to Dr Samia Tariq, the number of deceased has reached 27 and post-mortem examinations of all bodies have been completed.
Police Surgeon Dr Samia Syed said that a woman was identified as Misbah with the help of a locket worn around her neck.
The police surgeon added that the body of 33 year old Misbah, daughter of Irfan, will be handed over to her heirs. Four other members of Misbah’s family are still missing in the Gul Plaza tragedy. So far, a total of eight bodies have been identified.
