KARACHI: The severe cyclonic storm ‘Shakhti’ over northwest Arabian Sea has moved away from Karachi and centred at about 700km southwest of the city, PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center said in its alert.

Cyclone Shakti has started moving away from Karachi and is now positioned around 700 kilometers southwest of the city, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The department confirmed that the system is gradually weakening as it tracks further over the Arabian Sea.

While Karachi and nearby coastal areas experienced light rain and gusty winds earlier, the PMD stated that the cyclone now poses no direct threat to Pakistan’s coastline. However, moderate sea conditions may persist along Sindh and Makran coasts over the next 24 hours.

Authorities have advised fishermen to remain cautious and avoid venturing into deep sea areas until the system completely dissipates. The PMD added that Cyclone Shakti is expected to continue moving westward and weaken into a depression within the next two days.

Rescue and disaster management units remain on alert, though normal conditions are likely to return soon in most coastal districts, including Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin
