Most Parts of Pakistan to Remain Dry as Northern Regions Brace for Cold Nights
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast dry weather for most regions of the country over the next 24 hours, while northern areas including Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Skardu, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to experience cold nights as temperatures continue to drop.
According to the PMD, a weak westerly wave is affecting upper parts of the country but is not strong enough to bring widespread rain.
The majority of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan will remain dry and sunny during the daytime, though humidity levels may rise slightly in coastal areas.
In northern and hilly regions, cooler winds and clear skies at night will cause temperatures to fall significantly, leading to chilly conditions in valleys and mountain zones.
The lowest temperatures are expected in Hunza, Skardu, Kalam, and Ziarat, where the mercury may drop close to freezing during the late night hours
Meteorologists say this pattern is typical for mid-October, as the transition period between late monsoon and early winter begins.
The absence of significant rainfall is helping moisture evaporate quickly from the soil, creating drier conditions across plains and agricultural regions.
In urban centers such as Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, the weather is expected to remain mild during the day but slightly cooler at night.
The PMD predicts that this dry spell will continue over the next few days, with a possible drop in night temperatures across upper Pakistan.
Citizens are advised to prepare for cooler nights, especially in northern areas, and protect children and the elderly from sudden temperature changes.
Farmers have been urged to take advantage of the dry weather for harvesting and post-monsoon land preparation.
No major rain-producing system is expected in the coming days, though light showers may occur in isolated northern and western regions later in the week. The Met Office has confirmed that winter conditions are slowly setting in across the country.
