The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made internships and industry-relevant certifications compulsory for all undergraduate degree programs in Pakistan.
Under the new policy, students must complete at least three credit hours of supervised internship, while universities are required to form partnerships with industries, SMEs, and public sector organizations for practical placements.
Additionally, students must earn certifications in priority fields such as IT, healthcare, construction, digital economy, and finance, with credits from recognized bodies also counted toward degrees.
The initiative aims to equip graduates with job-ready skills and enhance their global competitiveness.
