A high-level investigation team formed by Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has launched a thorough probe into the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Karachi’s Quaidabad area. The victim, identified as Kulsoom Mohammed Qasim, went missing after leaving her home to play outside in Muslimabad Colony on Tuesday afternoon. Her body was discovered later that evening stuffed inside a gunny bag near a street gate close to her residence. Medical professionals subsequently confirmed that the toddler was subjected to violent rape before being murdered.
Malir Superintendent of Police for Investigation, Majida Perveen Halepota, alongside a medical team led by police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, confirmed that DNA samples have been collected from 12 suspects residing in the same neighborhood. Among those being tested are close relatives of the victim, with investigators currently centering their focus on three specific family members based on intelligence from the Special Branch and local informants. The gathered samples have been sent to a specialized laboratory at the University of Karachi for swift processing, as authorities note that a definitive breakthrough relies heavily on these forensic results.
The Quaidabad police have formally registered a criminal case based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father against unidentified perpetrators. The legal charges include premeditated murder, kidnapping, rape, unnatural offenses, and the destruction of evidence under the Pakistan Penal Code. Describing the incident as one of the most disturbing cases of her career, Dr. Syed underscored the extreme brutality of the crime. In response, IGP Odho has vowed that those responsible will face the full weight of the law without leniency, appointing the Deputy Inspector General of Karachi’s East Zone to oversee a completely transparent inquiry. This horrific event follows a separate recent case in Sargodha, where a prime suspect accused of attempting to rape and kill a seven-year-old girl was reportedly killed during an alleged police encounter following an escape attempt.
