In what industry leaders are calling a milestone for Pakistan’s energy sector, the Suez-max class tanker MT Pegasus carrying 1 million barrels of U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil has docked at the offshore terminal of Cnergyico PK Ltd in Balochistan.
The arrival marks Pakistan’s first crude oil shipment from the United States, highlighting a strategic shift away from almost exclusive reliance on Middle Eastern suppliers.
Industry analysts say the lighter, low-sulfur U.S. crude should improve refining margins and reduce costs over time, while the government sees this as a statement of energy diversification, economic resilience and enhanced trade ties with Washington.
