Pakistan’s veteran all-rounder Imad Wasim has officially been drafted into the Pakistan Champions squad for the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, set to kick off in England later this month.
The announcement was made on Sunday through the team’s social media channels, where they hailed Imad as “a power-packed addition… an all-rounder with grit, game, and presence.”
The 36-year-old, who announced his retirement from international cricket in December last year, has remained active on the franchise circuit and is currently representing Somerset in England’s T20 Blast. His inclusion is expected to add considerable depth to the Pakistan Champions side as they look to go one step further than last year’s heartbreak.
The WCL 2025 will run from July 18 to August 2, with matches scheduled across four iconic venues — Edgbaston, Northampton, Leicester, and Headingley.
Familiar Faces, Big Names
The Pakistan Champions squad reads like a reunion of the country’s modern cricket greats. Former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, experienced all-rounder Shoaib Malik, veteran batter Mohammad Hafeez — who will lead the side — alongside crowd-favourites Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz, all feature in the lineup.
With Imad now in the mix, Pakistan’s all-round options appear stronger, particularly given his proven ability with both bat and ball in English conditions.
The Road Ahead
Pakistan Champions will open their WCL campaign against England Champions on July 18, followed by a highly anticipated clash with India Champions on July 20 — a rematch of last year’s final, where Pakistan narrowly lost.
The team is determined to turn the tables this year, with the addition of Imad seen as a crucial factor in strengthening their title bid.
The WCL, much like Legends Leagues around the world, offers fans a chance to watch retired icons back in action, reigniting old rivalries and memorable match-ups.
With just over a week to go, the excitement is building, and for Pakistan Champions, the return of Imad Wasim adds a timely boost to their trophy aspirations.
