Islamabad/Tehran, April 22, 2026 — Iran has publicly acknowledged and welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between Tehran and Washington, highlighting Islamabad’s role in promoting dialogue amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Tehran values Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and recognizes its contributions toward de-escalation. “We appreciate Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate peace talks and reduce regional tensions while ensuring Iran’s national security and strategic interests,” he said.

Pakistan has taken an active role as a mediator, hosting discussions in Islamabad and conveying messages between Iranian and American officials. Senior Pakistani diplomats and military officials have participated in multiple rounds of back-channel diplomacy, aiming to prevent further escalation and encourage constructive dialogue.

The United Nations and several international observers have also highlighted Pakistan’s mediation as a stabilizing influence in a complex geopolitical landscape. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Sherry Rehman described the country’s role as that of a “trusted facilitator,” emphasizing Islamabad’s commitment to fostering communication and peace.

Despite the appreciation, challenges remain. Iran has set preconditions, such as the easing of a naval blockade, before engaging in new rounds of negotiations. The broader peace process between Washington and Tehran remains uncertain, with strategic disagreements and regional complexities complicating the path forward.

Nonetheless, Iran’s acknowledgment underscores Pakistan’s growing influence as a diplomatic intermediary and highlights the potential for neutral actors to play meaningful roles in resolving international conflicts.
