Iran has urged the United States to accept its proposal to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday, October 18, that the proposal remains on the table. He stated that if Washington accepts Tehran’s conditions, the waterway could reopen within six days, with negotiations resuming on the seventh day.
Iran’s conditions include lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports, removing sanctions on Iranian oil exports, and ending hostilities across regional fronts.
However, negotiations remain stalled, with Washington insisting that Iran’s nuclear programme must also be addressed.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route through which around one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas trade passed before the conflict.
The outcome of these negotiations could have major implications for international energy supplies and global oil prices.
