Pakistan and Afghanistan have expressed a joint commitment to eradicate polio.
In Karachi, on the directives of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, an important meeting between Pakistan and Afghanistan was held to discuss the current situation of polio. The meeting was attended by Member of National Assembly Iqbal Mehsud, Member of Provincial Assembly Faheem Patni, and Consul General of Afghanistan Syed Abdul Jabbar Tukhari.
The main agenda of the meeting was the complete eradication of polio and effective prevention of refusal cases. Consul General Syed Abdul Jabbar Tukhari appreciated the efforts being made under the leadership of Minister Mustafa Kamal for polio eradication, and praised the close cooperation between the two countries, terming it an excellent example of international partnership in the health sector.
The participants agreed to further strengthen the ongoing campaign to encourage parents to administer polio drops to their children.
In addition, the meeting also agreed on developing a joint strategy between Pakistan and Afghanistan and taking effective measures to ensure eradication of the polio virus in border areas.
