MALAKAND, Aug 16 — A tragic incident unfolded in Batkhela, Malakand, when unidentified gunfire at the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s (JUI) district chief, Mufti Kifayatullah, left him critically injured and claimed the lives of his young daughter and son. His wife also sustained severe injuries.

According to Levies officials, the attack occurred at the cleric’s home on Saturday. Authorities later confirmed that his own son was behind the shooting before fleeing the scene.

The injured, including Mufti Kifayatullah and his wife, were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Batkhela, where doctors confirmed that the JUI leader’s condition is stable. However, his wife remains in critical condition.

Police and Levies personnel have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack, while emergency teams carried out immediate rescue and medical operations.
