Kaira: Supporting the Government Doesn’t Mean Silence on Every Issue

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that extending support to the government does not mean the PPP will remain silent if the ruling party crosses limits.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Kaira reminded that his party backed the formation of the current government without taking ministries, purely in good faith. However, he added, “This does not mean the PML-N can do whatever it wants and expect us to stay quiet.”

He expressed concern that political discourse was becoming unnecessarily tense, urging the ruling party to avoid harsh words and divisive tones. “Pakistan has long faced multiple crises — from terrorism to economic challenges — we should not add political bitterness to that list,” he said.

Kaira pointed out that while the PPP has stood by the government during floods and national challenges, certain commitments made in the written agreement with the PML-N remain unfulfilled.

Acknowledging the role of Chief Minister Punjab, he said her recent remarks against PPP were disappointing. “We appreciated the good work during the floods, but where there are shortcomings, we will raise our voice. That’s our right.”

The PPP leader also praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for showing patience and responsibility in handling political matters.
