The bodies of an Afghan woman and her three children were found hanging inside a house in the Sohrab Goth area of Karachi, police said on Saturday.

According to rescue officials, four bodies were recovered from a residence located in the Ganna Mandi area. The deceased include a woman and three minor children.

Police stated that the children were between two and eight years of age. All four victims were found hanging, and the incident initially appears to be a case of suicide. The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Fatima, 10-year-old Sonam, 3-year-old Arzu, and 2-year-old Arman.

Police officials said the woman’s husband has been taken into custody for questioning, and investigations are underway. According to his initial statement, the incident occurred following a domestic dispute.

Authorities further revealed that the deceased woman was a national of Afghanistan, while her husband, Najeebullah, belongs to Layyah and works at the vegetable market. He had contracted a second marriage with the Afghan woman.

Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Lanjar took notice of the incident and contacted the SSP East. He was informed that the case is being treated as a suspected suicide, though the final conclusion will be reached after a thorough examination of evidence. The minister directed police to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation and to bring those responsible to justice
