Karachi Kings eliminated from PSL race despite late push

Karachi Kings are officially out of the Pakistan Super League 2026 playoff race after Lahore Qalandars beat Peshawar Zalmi by six wickets on April 25, a result that pushed Lahore into the top four and shut the door on Karachi’s campaign. Both teams finished on 10 points, but Lahore moved ahead on net run rate, leaving the Kings outside the qualification spots.

It’s a rough ending for Karachi because, on the face of it, they had given themselves a chance. The Kings had stayed alive with a big win in their previous game, but their fate was no longer in their own hands. Once Lahore got over the line against Zalmi, Karachi’s season was done.

The numbers tell the story pretty clearly. Lahore’s win lifted them to 10 points from 10 matches and into fourth place, while Karachi were left level on points but behind on NRR, which ended up being the difference between moving on and packing up.

For Karachi, that’s what will sting most. Not just the elimination, but the way it happened. They did enough to stay in the conversation until the closing stretch of the league stage, yet they still needed help from elsewhere. They didn’t get it. In T20 tournaments, that usually means one thing: too many missed chances earlier on, too much pressure too late. That final point is an inference from the standings situation rather than a direct match report, but it fits the path Karachi were forced into by the last round of fixtures.

Lahore, meanwhile, grabbed the opening. Their victory over table-toppers Peshawar wasn’t just another league win; it was the result that reshaped the playoff picture and ended Karachi’s hopes in one shot.

So that’s where it ends for the Kings this season. A few flashes, some momentum near the finish, but not enough margin for error. When the table tightened, net run rate became judge and jury — and Karachi came up short.
