Karachi Weather Update: Light to Moderate Rain, Thunderstorms Expected Through Tuesday

KARACHI: Karachi is expected to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms starting Monday, with wet weather likely to continue into Tuesday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD has forecast partly cloudy skies over the city, along with hot and humid conditions over the next 24 hours. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to climb up to 37°C, while humidity levels remain high at around 72%. Winds are currently blowing at a speed of 18 kilometres per hour.

The weather authority mentioned that rainfall is expected to occur at scattered locations across the city, varying in intensity from light to moderate.

This rainy spell is part of a larger weather system. A westerly wave is currently influencing the upper and central regions of Pakistan and is expected to persist through Sunday and Monday. As a result, most areas across the country are likely to remain hot and dry, with exceptionally high temperatures in the plains.

Nonetheless, isolated regions in northeast and south Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southeast Sindh (including Karachi), northeast Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may see dust storms, rainfall, or thunderstorms under partly cloudy conditions.

Rain has already been recorded in several cities including Gujrat, Mangla, Sialkot, Islamabad, Murree, Mir Khani, Kalam, Dir, Drosh, Rawalakot, and Gupis.

On Saturday, the highest temperatures in the country were reported in Turbat and Pasni, where the mercury soared to a scorching 49°C.

Meanwhile, Karachi’s air quality continues to be a concern. The city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 112, with PM2.5 levels measured at eight times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended annual safe limits.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions during rainfall and potential thunderstorms.
