A major fire broke out at a garment factory inside Karachi’s Export Processing Zone on Monday, triggering panic among workers and prompting a rapid response from fire brigades. According to initial reports, thick smoke engulfed the building within minutes, forcing employees to evacuate urgently.
Firefighters from multiple stations rushed to the scene and began efforts to control the blaze, which had already spread to a significant portion of the facility. Rescue teams confirmed that no casualties had been reported so far, but the intensity of the fire made the operation challenging.
Workers standing outside the factory watched anxiously as flames continued to rise from the structure. Many said they lost their personal belongings and feared heavy financial losses to the factory owners.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire, with early suspicion pointing toward an electrical short-circuit — a recurring issue in industrial units lacking proper maintenance.
