The mother of Azaan, the seven-year-old boy whose recent disappearance gripped Karachi, has publicly dismissed allegations that the kidnapping was a staged event.

Her statement comes as social media speculation continues to swirl, with some users and local observers questioning the circumstances surrounding the boy’s recovery. The child went missing earlier this week from the city’s North Nazimabad area, sparking a frantic search and a massive police response that eventually led to his safe return.

“I am a mother who spent hours in absolute terror, not a scriptwriter,” she told reporters outside her residence Wednesday. Her voice remained strained, reflecting the toll of the last few days. “People sitting behind screens have no idea what it is like to lose a child, only to have their pain mocked by conspiracy theories.”

The skepticism stems from conflicting initial reports regarding how the boy was discovered. While police officials initially credited a swift tactical operation, later accounts suggested the child had been found near a public space under circumstances that some critics labeled “suspicious.”

Senior police officials in the West District have maintained that the investigation is ongoing. They are currently analyzing CCTV footage from multiple points along the route where Azaan was last seen. Investigators have also been questioning neighborhood residents to determine if the abduction was a targeted act or a random occurrence.

Despite the police’s ongoing efforts, the narrative surrounding the case remains fractured. The mother’s rejection of the “scripted” claims is an attempt to refocus public attention on the safety of children in the city, rather than the online vitriol that has overshadowed the family’s ordeal.

The family’s legal representative stated that they are prepared to pursue defamation charges against individuals spreading what they termed “malicious misinformation” on social media platforms.

For now, the household remains under police protection, and the seven-year-old is undergoing counseling to process the incident. Whether the investigation yields a concrete link to a criminal syndicate or remains a mystery, the family insists the trauma was real — and the accusations are a secondary, cruel blow.
