The Karachi administration has finalized planning to address the poor condition of major roads and inner streets across the city. The plan was discussed in a meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Transport, Secretary Local Government Housing and Town Planning, CEO Trans Karachi, officials from Karachi Water and Sewerage Services, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority, representatives of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, KDA, Red Line and Yellow Line projects, senior officers, and deputy commissioners.
Officials informed the meeting that most PC-I documents have been prepared and work will begin after approval. The commissioner directed that the remaining PC-I documents be completed within two days.
According to the briefing, Town Municipal Corporations will carry out repairs on 453 inner roads, while the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will repair 106 major roads and main streets. The commissioner instructed all departments to work in coordination to avoid duplication.
For traffic management improvement, 31 new traffic signals will be installed. The meeting also decided to improve and beautify I.I. Chundrigar Road and improve the condition of Mauripur Road. The progress of Red Line and Yellow Line projects was also reviewed.
District-wise, road repair work will be carried out on 138 roads in District East, 50 roads in District Central, 15 roads in District South, 93 roads in District Korangi, 193 roads in District Malir, and 27 roads in District Keamari.
