Karachi is witnessing a rise in seasonal flu cases, with hospitals reporting an increase in patients experiencing fever, cough, sore throat and body aches. Doctors have also reported the circulation of the H1N1 influenza strain, raising concerns about the spread of infection.
Recent reports indicate that around 400 influenza cases have been reported at a major private hospital in Karachi this year. Public hospitals are also seeing an increase in patients with flu-like symptoms.
Doctors warn that H1N1 can cause serious complications, including pneumonia, particularly among children, elderly people and individuals with existing medical conditions or weakened immune systems.
Medical experts are advising citizens to wear masks in crowded places, wash their hands regularly, avoid close contact with sick people and stay home when experiencing flu symptoms. People should avoid taking antibiotics without medical advice because antibiotics do not treat viral infections.
Doctors have also stressed the importance of seasonal flu vaccination, especially for people at higher risk. Anyone experiencing breathing difficulties, persistent high fever or worsening symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.
