Despite persistent claims of reduced traffic accidents, Karachi continues to witness fatal road mishaps on a daily basis, highlighting ongoing safety concerns for commuters.
According to initial reports, a speeding Corolla car struck a scooter near Dumba Goth on the Super Highway within the jurisdiction of Gadap Town Police Station. The collision caused two women riding the scooter to fall off the bridge.
Both women sustained severe injuries as they plunged from the bridge. Residents gathered at the site soon after the incident, while police and rescue teams rushed to assist the victims.
One of the injured women was shifted to a nearby hospital, while the other was transported in critical condition to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police identified the deceased as 20-year-old Samra Sheikh, daughter of Hatim Sheikh, while the injured woman was identified as 37-year-old Rabia Naz, daughter of Shahid Ali. Both victims were residents of Bahria Town and worked as teachers.
Gadap City SHO Sarfaraz Jatoi told Express that the women were traveling from Bahria Town towards the city when an overspeeding vehicle hit their scooter, causing both to fall off the bridge. The officer added that the victims were associated with a coaching center or private educational institute in Karachi.
Police have seized the vehicle involved in the incident and arrested the driver, Kashif Aziz. Further investigation is under way.
