The Sindh Prisons Department has suspended three officers of District Prison and Correctional Facility Malir following serious allegations of harassment and bribery involving a female visitor during a scheduled inmate meeting.
The action comes after Sindh Minister for Prisons and Correctional Services, Mr. Ali Hasan Zardari, took immediate and strict notice of a written complaint filed by the woman alleging misconduct by jail staff. The complaint accused officials of demanding bribes and engaging in inappropriate behavior during the meeting process.
On the minister’s special directive, Inspector General of Sindh Prisons and Corrections Service, Mr. Fida Hussain Mastoi, initiated disciplinary proceedings and suspended the following personnel with immediate effect:
- ASI Azizullah
- ASI Abbas Abro
- Police Constable Nasheel Ali Sher Soomro
Given the severity of the allegations, DIG Prisons Karachi Region, Mr. Muhammad Aslam Malik, has been appointed as the inquiry officer. He has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation and submitting a detailed report within a stipulated timeframe. Based on the findings, strict departmental action will be taken under relevant service rules.
IG Prisons emphasized that harassment, misconduct, or bribery involving inmates or their families will not be tolerated under any circumstances. “There is no room in the department for those who exploit their positions for unethical or illegal acts,” he stated.
All jail superintendents across the province have been directed to ensure a respectful and safe environment for female visitors and to enhance surveillance and monitoring of all inmate meetings.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to upholding institutional integrity and restoring public confidence in the correctional system.
