PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle in Peshawar has arrested a key member of a gang involved in illegal kidney transplants, marking a major breakthrough in the fight against the unlawful human organ trade.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Aimal Khan, was arrested from Mardan following a complaint lodged by a victim. Authorities revealed that Aimal Khan was actively involved in illegal kidney transplantation and had earned millions of rupees through this criminal network.
The spokesperson added that Aimal Khan’s role was crucial as he administered anesthesia to patients during the unlawful procedures. He reportedly carried out these activities with the assistance of private hospitals that provided cover for the gang’s operations.
Investigations and crackdown on organ trade network
Initial investigations suggest that several other individuals and facilitators are also part of this illegal organ trade network. FIA officials confirmed that more arrests are expected in the coming days, and a comprehensive case will be submitted to ensure strict legal action.
“A strong case will be submitted against the accused based on solid evidence to ensure exemplary punishment,” the FIA spokesperson said, emphasizing that the agency is committed to eliminating the illegal organ trade.
Public urged to report illegal organ trade
The FIA has urged the public to immediately report any information related to the illegal sale, purchase, or transplantation of human organs to the nearest FIA office. The agency stressed that such crimes endanger innocent lives and will be met with zero tolerance.
The crackdown reflects FIA’s renewed efforts to enforce Pakistan’s Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act and prevent exploitation of vulnerable patients.
