KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti authorities have arrested 48 expatriates during an inspection campaign targeting suspected violations of residency and labour regulations in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area.
The operation was conducted by the General Department of Criminal Investigation and the Residence Affairs Investigation Department in coordination with the Public Authority for Manpower.
Officials inspected 120 commercial establishments during the campaign as part of Kuwait’s continuing efforts to ensure compliance with residency and employment regulations.
According to the Ministry of Interior, nine individuals were arrested for alleged violations under Article 20, which governs residency arrangements for domestic workers. Another person was reportedly wanted for absconding under the same category.
Authorities also detained 36 individuals over alleged violations of Article 18, which covers residency rules applicable to private-sector employees.
Another person found in violation of Article 18 was reportedly associated with a company that did not exist and was already wanted under an arrest warrant.
One additional individual was detained for an alleged violation of Article 22, which concerns residency permits issued to dependants.
The ministry said legal and administrative measures had been initiated against all those arrested and that the individuals would be referred to the relevant authorities for further proceedings.
Kuwaiti authorities added that inspection operations would continue in different parts of the country to ensure compliance with residency and labour laws and to take action against violations.
