Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has clarified that there is no official restriction on the number of bottled water packs consumers can purchase, following widespread public concern and reports of panic buying in supermarkets.
The clarification came after social media posts and videos showing customers buying large quantities of bottled water sparked fears that supplies could become limited. Authorities said these purchases were driven by individual consumer behavior rather than any government-imposed rationing policy.
The ministry stressed that bottled water remains readily available across the country and that supply chains are operating normally. Officials assured residents that there is no shortage of drinking water and urged the public to avoid unnecessary stockpiling, warning that hoarding can create temporary shortages and inconvenience other shoppers.
Authorities also emphasized that Kuwait’s strategic reserves and distribution network are sufficient to meet consumer demand. The government is closely monitoring retail markets to ensure adequate supplies and prevent any attempts to exploit the situation through price manipulation or unfair practices.
Officials called on residents to rely only on verified government announcements and avoid spreading rumors on social media, noting that misinformation can trigger unnecessary panic buying.
The ministry reiterated that retailers continue to receive regular deliveries and that consumers should purchase only what they reasonably need, helping ensure stable availability for everyone.
