A Lahore court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz and summoned PTI founding chairman Imran Khan in connection with a 2023 case related to an alleged attack on Islamabad police personnel deployed outside Zaman Park.
The case, registered at Lahore’s Race Course Police Station, pertains to the clashes between PTI supporters and law enforcement during tense days when police had surrounded Khan’s residence.
Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023, will be produced through jail authorities as ordered by the court during Friday’s hearing at Cantt Kutchery. The court adjourned the hearing until July 30.
This development comes after a series of recent convictions in the May 9 riots case, where several senior PTI leaders, including Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema, were sentenced to 10 years in prison by anti-terrorism courts. Meanwhile, some leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, were acquitted.
