The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light to moderate showers in parts of Karachi on September 30, with temperatures in the city expected to rise to 38°C a day earlier.
In its weather advisory, the Met Office said strong winds and rainfall are likely in several districts of Sindh between September 29 and 30. Areas including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Tando Mohammad Khan, and Hyderabad are expected to receive rain and dust storms, while isolated showers may occur in Jamshoro, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, and Sanghar.
Karachi’s temperature is projected to stay around 36°C on Sunday before climbing to 38°C on Monday, the PMD noted.
Earlier this month, the city experienced light rain and drizzle on September 16 in localities such as II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, and Garden. Moist winds from the Arabian Sea triggered the brief showers, offering temporary relief to commuters.
However, a heavier spell from September 8 to 10 left much of Karachi waterlogged, with overflowing rivers and streams inundating low-lying neighbourhoods. The flooding displaced hundreds of residents, while rescue teams were deployed after the Lyari and Malir rivers breached their banks. Several deaths were also reported from drowning incidents in the Gadap River.
