KARACHI: Malaria cases across Sindh have risen sharply this year, reaching 192,571 according to official data from the Sindh Health Department. The alarming increase has prompted authorities to accelerate preventive and treatment measures across the province.
The Hyderabad division has reported the highest number of cases with 89,116 infections, followed by the Karachi division with 2,736 patients recorded so far. Health officials warn that the number of malaria patients continues to rise in most parts of Sindh, with rural districts showing particularly high infection rates.
The health department stated that it is intensifying its anti-malaria campaign, increasing the number of diagnostic and treatment facilities to curb the spread of the disease. According to the department, spray operations and awareness campaigns have been accelerated in affected areas to prevent further transmission.
Officials added that the Sindh government has also decided to enhance public health initiatives to strengthen community-level response and reduce the disease burden.
Citizens have been urged to take preventive measures such as using mosquito nets, applying repellents, and avoiding stagnant water. The department further advised that anyone experiencing fever or related symptoms should undergo immediate testing and treatment to prevent complications.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to bringing the situation under control and emphasized the importance of public cooperation in supporting the government’s anti-malaria efforts.
