KARACHI: A man was shot dead after being mistaken for a robber by a hotel owner in Lyari’s Purana Haji Camp area late Tuesday night.
According to police, the incident occurred at Al-Hafeez Meezan Restaurant, also known as Bhutto Hotel, located in Gali No. 1 of the Purana Haji Camp locality. During the night, two men entered the restaurant, prompting the owner to suspect them of being robbers or target killers. In panic, the owner, identified as Sanaullah son of Azizullah, opened fire with his licensed pistol, hitting 24-year-old Mustafa Kachhi, son of Sikandar Kachhi, in the head.
The injured man was rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning. Police recovered a K-Electric identity card from the victim’s possession bearing his own name.
Following the incident, police reached the scene and took the hotel owner into custody along with his weapon. Sanaullah was handed over to Kalakot Police Station for legal proceedings.
Officials stated that the incident appeared to have resulted from a misunderstanding. However, two separate FIRs were registered against the suspect — one for firing on the victim and another for possessing an illegal weapon. The murder case was filed on behalf of the victim’s father, while the second case was registered by the state.
Police added that the deceased was reportedly assisting law enforcement in locating illegally residing foreigners in the area when the tragic misunderstanding occurred.
