Punjab CM Announces Landmark Welfare Initiative for Religious Leaders
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a monthly salary program for more than 65,000 mosque Imams across the province, marking a historic step toward ensuring financial stability and recognition for religious leaders.
According to official reports, each Imam will receive a monthly salary of Rs. 25,000, as part of the government’s wider welfare and community support initiatives. The decision reflects Maryam Nawaz’s commitment to promoting religious harmony and empowering those who play a central role in guiding society through faith and moral leadership.
In addition to this initiative, CM Maryam Nawaz also announced projects for mosque renovations, enhanced cybercrime control, and paperless governance through the e-Business project under the Punjab IT reforms.
Religious scholars and community members across Punjab have praised the move, calling it a “historic and people-centered decision” that strengthens the bond between the government and faith-based institutions. Authorities have confirmed that the implementation framework and registration details will be finalized soon to begin the salary disbursement process province-wide.
