KARACHI – A tragic incident unfolded near Nagan Chowrangi where an online motorbike rider, father of three, was shot dead by armed robbers.
According to police, unidentified motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire, killing 55-year-old Muhammad Ismail, son of Muhammad Essa, on the spot. Another passerby, identified as 17-year-old Sohail, son of Abdul Rasheed, sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital along with the victim’s body.
The SHO of New Karachi Police Station stated that four suspects on two motorbikes targeted the victim for unknown reasons, firing multiple shots, two of which struck Ismail in the abdomen.
However, eyewitnesses claimed that the incident occurred during an attempted mobile phone snatching. According to a beggar and a rosary seller present at the scene, the robbers snatched the victim’s phone, but he resisted and tried to take it back, prompting one of the robbers to open fire. The suspects fired six shots before fleeing.
The deceased’s son, Haris, said his father had previously run a shoe shop near Water Pump but had shifted to online bike riding after financial losses. He was waiting for a passenger when the shooting took place.
Residents reported that street crimes are frequent in the area, with multiple snatching incidents occurring daily, while police patrols fail to deter the culprits.
