Layyah: A man accused of selling his newborn child for money has been arrested in Layyah nearly a year after the incident.

Police registered a case in Karor Lal Esan on the complaint of the child’s mother, who also nominated four other individuals allegedly involved in the crime.

According to the complainant, after the baby was born at a local hospital, her husband claimed the infant was unwell and needed to be taken to Layyah Hospital. She said that each time she asked for the child, her husband avoided giving answers and eventually forced her out of the house. After repeated attempts, she managed to file a formal complaint against him.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to selling the baby for Rs. 800,000. The couple who purchased the infant also admitted to the transaction.

Police officials said the child will be handed over to the mother after a DNA test confirms maternity. The accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
