The Pakistan Meteorological Department has reported that the country received more rainfall between July 1 and 14 this year compared to the same period in 2024, though the pattern varied widely across regions.
According to the Met Office, the most notable increase was recorded in Balochistan, where rainfall soared to 187% above the normal average for early July. In contrast, Balochistan had received near-normal rainfall during the same period last year.
Punjab also saw a significant surge, with rainfall 81.6% above average this year—up from 72.4% above average in 2024. Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir experienced higher-than-normal precipitation, registering 34.9% and 19.3% increases, respectively.
However, the story was different in Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan, where rainfall remained below average for the second consecutive year. In Sindh, rainfall was 66.2% below normal this year, compared to 68.6% below in 2024.
Health officials have raised concerns over the continued dry spell in Sindh, warning that two years of below-average rainfall could have serious implications for public health and agriculture.
The Met Office has urged authorities to prepare for regional variations in rainfall as monsoon activity continues in the coming weeks.
