Sindh has reported a fresh increase in mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) cases, with health authorities confirming new infections in Karachi over the past few days. The latest cases involve patients with no recent foreign travel history, raising concerns about local transmission of the virus within the province.
According to official reports, the number of confirmed mpox cases in Sindh has reached 37, while nine deaths linked to the outbreak have been reported this year. The newest patient, a 26-year-old man from Karachi, tested positive after showing symptoms and is receiving medical care.
Health experts say the emergence of cases without travel history suggests the virus is no longer limited to imported infections. Authorities have intensified surveillance, contact tracing, isolation measures, and public awareness campaigns to prevent further spread.
The Sindh Health Department has urged citizens to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, body aches, or an unexplained rash. Preventive measures, including avoiding close contact with infected individuals and maintaining good hygiene, remain essential.
