It has been revealed that a suspected HIV patient was operated on alongside general patients at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, after which the operation theatre of the surgery department was sealed.
Medical Superintendent of Nishtar Hospital Dr. Rao Amjad said that the operation theatre was sealed a day after the suspected patient’s report came back positive.
According to the MS of Nishtar Hospital, a total of seven operations were carried out in the same theatre on Tuesday.
Dr. Rao Amjad said that according to regulations, an AIDS test has been made mandatory for every patient before surgery. However, the operation on the suspected patient was conducted before the report was received, and the report turned positive the following day.
He further stated that HIV tests of more than 10 doctors and paramedical staff members who remained on duty for two days have also been conducted, while an inquiry committee headed by Additional MS Dr. Lubna has been formed to investigate the incident.
