The National Economic Council has reduced development uplift plans for the fiscal year 2026-27, with Punjab reportedly facing the biggest cut among the provinces.

According to officials, the revised development allocations were finalized during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as part of broader efforts to manage fiscal pressures and maintain economic stability.

Sources said the reductions in development spending are aimed at controlling budget deficits and prioritizing essential national projects. Punjab reportedly experienced the largest decrease in its proposed development budget compared to other provinces.

Economic analysts believe the decision could affect infrastructure, public welfare, and development projects in several sectors during the upcoming fiscal year. However, government officials maintain that the revised strategy is necessary to ensure balanced financial management and sustainable economic planning.
