A tragic incident in Korangi’s Mehran Town has claimed the life of a young child after he fell into an open manhole, drawing strong condemnation from MQM-Pakistan. The party called the incident a painful reminder of the worsening civic crisis in Karachi and blamed the city’s leadership and local administration for what it termed “criminal negligence.”

In a statement, MQM-Pakistan said the death of an innocent child reflects the serious failure of Karachi Mayor and civic authorities to ensure basic public safety. The party described open manholes across the city as “death traps,” warning that citizens especially children are at constant risk due to poor maintenance and lack of accountability.

MQM-Pakistan demanded immediate action against Jamaat-e-Islami’s town administrators and the concerned municipal institutions, calling for strict accountability and disciplinary measures. It said that the repetition of such incidents, especially after a similar tragedy at NIPA Chowrangi, exposes the complete failure of both the Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamaat-e-Islami’s local government representatives.

The party warned that unless open manholes are sealed without delay, such heartbreaking incidents will continue to occur. It also held the Sindh government responsible for the deteriorating condition of civic services, stating that poor governance has pushed Karachi’s residents into daily danger.

Expressing sympathy with the bereaved family, MQM Pakistan urged the authorities to provide immediate financial assistance to the victims and take urgent steps to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for effective urban management and swift action to protect citizens from avoidable tragedies.
