The Ministry of Health has issued an emergency health advisory warning of possible outbreaks of various diseases following the floods, including cholera, typhoid, and diarrheal illnesses.
According to the advisory, stagnant floodwater in affected areas could also lead to the spread of dengue, chikungunya, and malaria.
The advisory further urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures to protect themselves from these diseases.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also expressed concern about a rise in epidemics in Pakistan due to the floods, noting that dengue cases have increased by 41 percent and malaria cases by 26 percent.
The report highlighted that cholera is spreading in Balochistan and Sindh, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cases of scabies, skin diseases, and snake and dog bites have increased.
WHO warned that if immediate measures are not taken, Pakistan’s healthcare system could collapse under the burden of epidemics.
