Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar urged religious scholars and ulema to strengthen unity within the Muslim Ummah as Pakistan concluded the first-ever International Qirat Competition (IQC) in Islamabad on Saturday. The event marked a significant moment in religious and cultural cooperation among Muslim nations.
The five-day competition, held from November 24 to 29, brought together more than 40 Qur’an reciters from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Participants showcased their recitation skills on a shared stage, representing the diverse traditions of Qur’anic recitation across the Muslim world.
According to state broadcaster Radio Pakistan, the event aimed to promote the art of Qur’anic recitation while fostering intercultural and interfaith harmony among Muslim-majority countries. Dar emphasized that every Muslim nation possesses unique strengths and that unity is essential to building a stronger and more resilient Ummah.
He called on Muslim states to collectively confront terrorism and other shared challenges, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability. Dar praised the Ministry of Religious Affairs for organizing the competition and suggested expanding participation by inviting Qaris from across the world in future editions.
