The holy month of Rajab is expected to begin across Pakistan on Monday, December 22, following favorable moon-sighting conditions forecast for December 21.

The holy month of Rajab is likely to begin across Pakistan on Monday, December 22, 2025, following favorable moon-sighting conditions forecast for the evening of Sunday, December 21, officials said.

According to astronomical assessments shared by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the new moon of Rajab is expected to be visible on Sunday evening, paving the way for the commencement of the sacred month the following day. Experts noted that weather patterns and celestial positioning are supportive of moon observation in most parts of the country.

In Karachi, the sun is expected to set at approximately 5:48 pm, while the moon will be above the horizon around 6:51 pm, providing a sufficient observation window for sighting committees and the public. The PMD further stated that moonlight is likely to remain visible for about 63 minutes after sunset, significantly enhancing the probability of a confirmed sighting.

Meteorologists and astronomers emphasized that clear skies and favorable atmospheric conditions will play a key role, but overall indicators strongly support the beginning of Rajab on December 22. Final confirmation, however, will rest with the official moon sighting authorities.

Rajab is one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar and holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims. It serves as a period of reflection and preparation ahead of Shaban and the holy month of Ramadan.

With expectations set for a nationwide start, religious scholars and institutions are preparing for special prayers and observances associated with the arrival of Rajab, marking an important phase in the Islamic lunar year.
