Pakistan witnessed the shortest day and the longest night of the year on Sunday, marking an important astronomical event observed across the Northern Hemisphere.
According to meteorological officials, Lahore and its surrounding areas experienced approximately 10 hours and 10 minutes of daylight. The duration of the night extended to nearly 13 hours and 50 minutes, with slight variations in other cities.
Experts say that December 21 is recognized as the shortest day annually in the Northern Hemisphere. This is caused by the tilt of the Earth, which positions the region farthest from direct sunlight.
Following this event, days will gradually start becoming longer, while nights will become shorter. This natural shift marks the unofficial transition toward the summer cycle.
