ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully launched a new remote sensing satellite from China on Thursday to strengthen its ability to monitor and respond to climate change challenges.

The satellite, lifted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre with technical support from Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), is expected to play a vital role in addressing environmental threats such as floods, landslides, glacier melt, and deforestation, state run Radio Pakistan reported.

Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal hailed the launch as a “proud moment” for the nation. In a post on social media, he highlighted that the satellite is the fourth Earth Observation Satellite launched under the URAAN (flight) Pakistan Space Program.

He further praised SUPARCO’s efforts and described the achievement as a symbol of the growing strength of Pakistan-China space cooperation, saying it takes the “Iron Brotherhood” beyond the skies.

The URAAN Pakistan program is part of a broader national economic transformation plan, designed to advance vital projects and reforms for the country’s development.
