Pakistan Says Peace Talks with Afghanistan Taliban Have Failed, Information Minister Reports

The Pakistani government has announced that high-level peace negotiations with the Taliban in Afghanistan ended without resolving key issues, according to the country’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. The talks, held in Istanbul and mediated by Turkey and Qatar, were meant to build on a previous truce and deal with cross-border militancy and security concerns.

Minister Tarar criticised the Afghan side for avoiding the central matter: preventing militant groups from using Afghan territory against Pakistan. He said Pakistan provided “sufficient and irrefutable evidence,” yet the Afghan delegation offered no meaningful commitments.

He cautioned that Pakistan’s patience is at its end and warned that if security threats persist, Islamabad will “take all possible measures” to protect its citizens.
