A decline in the spread of the polio virus has been recorded in environmental samples across the country.
According to a laboratory report issued by the National Polio Emergency Operations Centre, 75 locations tested polio-free, while results from 10 samples are still awaited. In Balochistan, out of 23 sewage samples, 22 tested negative and one positive. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24 samples were polio-free, while seven contained the virus.
In Punjab, 15 locations tested negative and 12 positive. In Sindh, 10 samples tested negative and 19 positive. In Islamabad, one location was negative, while the virus was detected in three samples. All samples from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan tested negative.
All tests were conducted at the Polio Regional Laboratory of the National Institute of Health.
