Doha — Pakistan’s seasoned cueist Shahid Aftab displayed remarkable skill and composure as he defeated India’s Paras Gupta by 4–2 frames in the IBSF World Snooker Championship 2025, advancing to the quarterfinal stage.
The high-voltage encounter between the two South Asian rivals kept fans on the edge of their seats. Aftab began confidently, taking the opening frame 73–25, but Gupta fought back to level the match 1–1. The Pakistani then regained control, registering a stunning break of 72 in the third frame to restore his lead.
Despite a brief comeback attempt from the Indian cueist, Aftab’s superior tactical play and precision potting saw him win the next two frames to seal the match 4–2. His consistency under pressure and calm temperament proved decisive in the contest.
Speaking after the victory, Shahid Aftab said, “Matches against India always carry extra pressure, but I focused on my rhythm and stuck to my plan. I’m happy to make Pakistan proud.”
This victory has kept Pakistan’s hopes alive in the global championship. Aftab will now face his next opponent in the quarterfinals as the tournament continues in Doha, Qatar.
