The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain of Pakistan’s One Day International (ODI) team. The announcement marks a major leadership change ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming international fixtures.
According to PCB officials, the decision was made after careful consideration of the team’s future direction and performance goals. Shaheen’s aggressive mindset, on-field energy, and ability to inspire teammates reportedly played a key role in his selection for the role.
Shaheen, 25, has previously captained Pakistan in T20 internationals and also led Lahore Qalandars to consecutive PSL titles — achievements that strengthened his reputation as a natural leader.
In his statement, Shaheen expressed gratitude to the board and fans, saying, “It’s a huge honor to lead my country in ODIs. I’ll give my best to bring pride to Pakistan and build a strong, united team.”
The new ODI captain will take charge in Pakistan’s next international assignment, where the board expects a refreshed and more competitive performance from the national side.
