Lahore The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert, warning of heavy downpours and thunderstorms across multiple districts of the province between October 5 and 7.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, the upcoming weather system could bring significant rainfall, particularly in the upper catchment areas of Punjab’s rivers, raising concerns about increased water flow in streams and low-lying regions.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia directed all Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to remain on high alert, stressing that district administrations have already been briefed as per the Chief Minister’s instructions.
“The expected rains may lead to a rise in river and stream levels. All relevant officers must stay active in the field to deal with any emergency,” Kathia said.
He confirmed that alerts have been dispatched to key departments including Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock to ensure preparedness.
The authority also urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures. In case of strong winds or storms, residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and refrain from standing under open skies during lightning.
