The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has launched a one-month Skill Development Training Programme for 1,400 graduate engineers under the second cohort of its Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Programme. The initiative aims to help young engineers bridge the gap between academic education and professional practice.
The first batch of 700 engineers is receiving training from September 1 to 30, 2026, while the remaining 700 trainees will undergo the programme from October 1 to 31.
The GET programme is being implemented in collaboration with more than 60 industrial partners across Pakistan. Trainees complete five months of practical field training with industry partners, followed by one month of skills development. Each trainee receives a monthly stipend of Rs50,000 during the programme.
The skills training is being conducted at eight centres located in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta.
The training curriculum covers communication skills, emotional intelligence, executive presence, stress management, business writing, public speaking, conflict resolution, stakeholder management, critical thinking, time management, innovation and engineering ethics. Trainees will also participate in a one-week personality development certificate programme organized by the National Defence University during the final week.
PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir said the programme is designed to improve the employability of young engineers by combining practical industrial exposure with essential workplace skills. He added that the initiative would strengthen industry-academia links and help prepare graduates for the changing demands of the engineering sector.
