A petrol pump owner was shot dead in a suspected targeted killing in Sammarzar Colony, located within the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi’s Saddar Berooni Police Station.
According to police, a case has been registered on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Ejaz-ul-Haq, under sections related to murder and abetment. The deceased, Sardar Irshad, was a known businessman and owner of a petrol pump on Chakri Road.
The complainant stated that he, along with his brother and nephew, was waiting for Sardar Irshad at Chaudhry Ashraf Road in Sammarzar Colony, from where Irshad was to take them to his petrol pump in his Vigo vehicle. As Irshad’s vehicle approached the street, two armed assailants on a motorcycle rode up alongside the car.
The pillion rider opened fire at close range, shooting Irshad multiple times in the chest and other parts of the body. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault. Irshad was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The complainant alleged that unknown suspects killed his brother in a planned attack for reasons yet to be determined. Police have begun investigations after registering the FIR.
Sources said the victim had just picked up his three daughters from school and was returning home at the time of the attack, though this detail was not included in the FIR.
